U.S : Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie SCHUBERT is hiding behind a fence.

District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert is trying to avoid her responsibility and downplay her role, but we know that she could indict TODAY, if she wanted to.

Only DA Schubert can bring local charges against the cops who murdered Stephon Clark. Demand accountability !

Dear friend,

Three weeks ago, members of Color of Change and Black Lives Matter Sacramento marched to District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert's office to deliver the petition demanding justice for Stephon Clark. Over 100,000 signatures called on the DA to bring charges against Officers Mercadal and Robinet. And what was her response the very next day ? To erect a fence around her office.1 DA Schubert's actions speak for themselves. Instead of serving the people, she built a wall.

We are determined to get this message through : no justice, no peace. We will call every line publicly listed to make our demands heard, if we have to. Dear friend, we need your voice !

Stephon Clark was only standing in his grandmother’s yard, holding a cell phone when Sacramento police shot him in the back while his family was inside the home.2 Immediately, the officers involved began covering up their crimes. The officers arrived at the residential area responding to a call for a possible vandalism. They had the lousy excuse of mistaking a cell phone for a gun. The only description officers had was someone wearing a hoodie. Clark, a young, loving father of two children is dead because the police abused their power and were trigger happy.

Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert was elected by the people. Yet, she has a long, tainted record of harming Black communities in the city-- she has NEVER prosecuted an officer for killing us. 22 people murdered by the police since DA Schubert took office and NO indictments. 3 The officers who murdered Dazion Flenaugh and Joseph Mann are free today because of her choices.4 DA Schubert is determined to rollback any and all criminal justice reform policies. Schubert is currently campaigning with a law enforcement led coalition for a ballot initiative in California that seeks to unravel recent reforms gained in props 47 and 57.5 The “Keep California Safe Act of 2018” creates new crimes, labels more people as criminals, and would undo the progress that led to a dramatic reduction in the prison population. Her only intention is to further increase mass incarceration by locking more people up for the smallest offenses.

Last week DA Schubert held a press conference trying to deny District Attorneys are elected officials who play a prominent and influential role in the criminal justice system. Communities need real leaders who will not sit idle and do nothing to hold police officers accountable. District Attorneys have the power to ensure all communities are safe and people are not locked behind cages just to fill the pockets of crooked politicians. We need District Attorneys who will put the people first. It requires a real commitment to standing up to killer cops, ending mass incarceration, and putting an end to criminalizing all Black people.

Over and over again, Black people killed by police with no justice served. But with our voices in this fight, we will not give up on Stephon Clark along with all those whose lives did not matter to police.

Until justice is real,

Clarise, Rashad, Arisha, Scott, Anay, Kristen, Marena, Tamar, Lorran, Daniel, and the rest of the Color Of Change team
